Testimony- Rachel Hadebe from Ntuzuma Township
I used to work as a clerk at Prince
Msheyeni memorial hospital in Umlazi U section. I fell very sick, my mind was
absent and felt like I was going mad. I missed a few days of work and
unfortunately lost my job this was very devastating both mentally and
financially, because of those difficulties I started living at Durban station,
eating food from the bins, covering myself with plastics and boxes to keep warm
and sleeping on the streets.
The life was hard and disgraceful I lost
friends and my family stopped talking to me. One day I visited Addington
Hospital looking for a job. This is where I was told to go to House of life by
some of the ladies I was sitting with. I decided to try it out. The next Sunday
I visited and I was greeted with kindness, given clothes, food and heard a
great sermon about forgiveness.
I became a regular at house of life and
they helped me beyond measure. I told
them that I was good with my hands sewing and knitting, they bought equipment,
material and helped me learn new designs
to make and sell. My hope for a better life came back and I know now that there
is a light at the end of this dark tunnel.
Forgiveness has set me free from anger,
I have forgiven my family and friends for abandoning me in my time of need and
we are working on building our relationships again. My greatest gratitude goes
out to all those who support house of life in many ways and I pray that they
help as many young women as possible to build their lives.
